Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC)
Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) specializes in the deployment, ownership and operation of peaceful nuclear energy plants within the UAE. Construction of four units of 1,400-megawatt each commenced in April 2010 on a site in Barakah, about 53 kilometers from Ruwais in the Western Region. When the four reactors are completed, the UAE's peaceful nuclear energy program will provide approximately 25 per cent of the UAE's electricity needs and save up to 12 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year. The first nuclear reactor was started in August 2020.
