Engie (formerly GDF Suez) is a French multinational electric utility company that operates in the fields of electricity generation and distribution, natural gas, nuclear and renewable energy. Formed in July 2008 as the result of the merger of Gaz de France and Suez, Engie traces its origins to the Universal Suez Canal Company founded in 1858 to construct the Suez Canal. In the Gulf region, the company is active in Oman, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia through four businesses: power generation, seawater desalinization, liquefied natural gas distribution and energy services.
