Kuwait Gulf Oil Company
The Kuwait Gulf Oil Company was founded in 2002 to represent the State of Kuwait in the Divided Zone. It began its primary role in that regard in January 2003 when it took over the management of Kuwait DZ offshore area from the Arabian Oil Company on the expiry of that company’s concession agreement. The Divided Zone was established between the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a buffer zone along the International Boundary between the two countries in an effort to improve cooperation for development projects in the border areas. The explored hydrocarbon resources are equally shared between the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the exploitation is managed through a Joint Operations Committee established between the two countries. In 2006, KGOC took over the responsibility to manage Kuwait share of the resources in the on-land Divided Zone that had been carried on by the Kuwait Oil Company. Since then, Kuwait Gulf Oil Company is responsible of managing all of the shared resources in the DZ (onshore and offshore).
