Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) was the first Islamic bank to start operating in the country in 1982. It currently holds 42% share of the Islamic banking sector and approximately 12% of the total domestic banking sector. As of end 2016, total assets reached QAR 139.8 billion (USD 38.3 billion). Qatar Islamic Bank has stakes in a number of Qatari Sharia-compliant financial services companies, including QInvest, its investment banking subsidiary, and its affiliates Beema (Takaful solutions provider) and Al Jazeera Finance (consumer finance company). The Group has also established an international presence in the United Kingdom, Lebanon, Malaysia and Sudan.
