Yusuf Ahmed Kanoo, a prominent businessman from Bahrain, has died after a long battle with diabetes.
Mr. Yusuf Ahmed Kanoo was chairman of The Kanoo Group of companies in Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
He was born in Manama in 1942 and received his secondary education in Bahrain and higher education in the United Kingdom.
He then obtained a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Houston.
He started his professional career as a resident director at Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo and Company in Oman (1976 – 1978).
He then moved to Dubai as director of The Kanoo Group (1979 – 1981), followed by a stint in Abu Dhabi (1982 to 1984), and back to Dubai as Managing Director (1985 – 1993). In 1994, he became the chairman of the group.
Mr. Kanoo was also the Chairman of International Paint (Gulf), Maersk Kanoo (UAE), and BASF Kanoo Gulf.
