Saudi Arabia’s Etihad Etisalat Company (Mobily) has appointed Khalifa Hassan Alshamsi, a 22-year Etisalat veteran, as Managing Director.
Mr. Alshamsi, who is already a board member of Mobily (profile), joined the UAE telecommunications giant Etisalat in 1993 and has served as Chief Digital Services Officer since May 2012. Prior to that, he held the position of Senior Vice President Technology Strategy.
Etisalat in the largest shareholder in Mobily, with a 27.4 per cent stake.
Mr. Alshamsi replaces Mr. Khalid Al Kaf, who left Etihad Etisalat Company last February following an earnings scandal that led the company to restate 18 months of previously-announced profits and subsequently report losses in the fourth quarter of 2014 and first quarter of this year.
Mr. Alshamsi graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1993.
