Al Rajhi Bank, Saudi Arabia’s second largest bank by assets, has appointed Stefano (Steve) Bertamini as chief executive effective from May 18, replacing Sulaiman Abdulaziz Al Zabin who resigned for personal reasons.
Before joining Al Rajhi Bank (profile), Mr. Bertamini was Group Executive Director to the Board of Standard Chartered PLC and Chief Executive Officer, Consumer Banking, in Singapore since May 2008.
Before joining Standard Chartered, Mr. Bertamini spent 22 years with GE, most recently as Chairman and CEO of GE North East Asia across all businesses. Earlier in his GE tenure, he headed GE’s acquisition and merger business in the Asia-Pacific region; served as President of GE Capital; and was Chief Executive Officer of GE Australia and New Zealand.
From 2001-2003 he was a non-executive director on the board of UGL, a global engineering and property services company in Australia. Steve is member of YPO, Global 50, Chief Executives Organisation and Visa’s Senior Client Council.
Mr. Bertamini graduated from University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor’s degree of Business in Finance and Management and holds an MBA from the University of North Texas. He is married with one daughter and two sons.
