Dr. Azzam AlDakhil, the former Saudi Minister of Education, has rejoined Saudi Research and Marketing Group as CEO and Managing Director, two days after stepping down from his government post.
In a shakeup of some government posts last week, Dr. Azzam AlDakhil (biography) was appointed as Advisor at the Saudi Royal Court and simultaneously relieved from his ministerial responsibilities upon his request.
Before his appointment as Minister of Education in February 2015, Dr. Al Dakhil was briefly the CEO of Misk Foundation, which was founded in 2011 to support youth and their career aspirations. Prior to that, starting in 2003, he served in various capacities at Saudi Research and Marketing Group and became the CEO in 2008.
Dr. AlDakhil holds a PhD in civil engineering from the University of Dundee, with a specialization in construction management, as well as a Master’s degree from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo and a Bachelor’s degree in architecture from King Saud University in Riyadh.
Dr. Al Dakhil is also an honorary visiting fellow at London’s City University and he has published a book in Arabic called ‘Taalemohom’ which seeks to compare best practices in education experiences globally.
Saudi Research and Marketing Group, publishers of pan-Arab newspaper Asharq al-Awsat, is one of the largest media companies in the Gulf region. Its ownership changed hands last month, with two funds managed by NCB Capital acquiring 55.2% of the shares, including a 29.9% stake previously held by Prince AlWaleed bin Talal.
