Dubai Duty Free group sales reach $1.93 billion in 2015

Dubai Duty Free group, which incorporates the airport retail operation and its Leisure division, announced a turnover of AED 7.06 billion (USD 1.93 billion) for 2015. The figure includes Dubai Duty Free sales, which reached AED 6.89 billion (USD 1.89 billion) for the year.

Dubai Duty Free group sales reach $1.93 billion in 2015Dubai Duty Free (profile), which operates at both Dubai International and Dubai South airports, recorded its highest sales for the year in December 2015 when figures reached AED 721.87 million (USD 197.77 million).

In 2014, DDF recorded sales of AED 7 billion (USD 1.92 billion), representing a 7.36% increase over the previous year. 

Reflecting on the year at Dubai Duty Free, Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman said: “Overall, it has been a very good year and I would like to thank H.H. “There is a lot to look forward to in 2016, including the opening of Concourse D at Dubai International, which is a fantastic facility that will be very well received. We have a 7,000 square meters retail operation in Concourse D and will be introducing some new brands and concepts there,” added McLoughlin.

Dubai Duty Free recorded 26,848,832 sales transactions in 2015, which is an average of 73,558 sales transactions per day across both Dubai International and at Dubai South. This compares with 26,995,367 sales transactions in 2014, or an average of 73,960 sales transactions per day across both airports.

Category wise, perfumes continued to be the highest selling category with annual sales topping AED 1.137 million (USD 311.58 million) which represents 16.5% of total annual sales. Liquor and Cigarettes followed, with sales of AED 1.07 billion (USD 293 million) and AED 589.67 million (USD 161.55 million) respectively. Confectionery came in 4th place with sales amounting to AED 556.14 million (USD 152.37 million) followed by Gold with AED 549.32 million (USD 150.50 million).

Departure sales, which account for 87% of the total annual sales reached AED 5.99 billion (USD 1.64 billion), while Arrivals sales showed a 6% increase over last year and accounted for 11% of the total annual sales. Moreover, Terminal 2 recorded an 18% increase in sales over last year to reach AED 639.52 million (USD 175.21 million).
