Saudi tycoon Walid Al Juffali dies

Saudi billionaire businessman Walid Al Juffali has died in Zurich, Switzerland after a battle with cancer. He was 61.

Saudi tycoon Walid Al Juffali diesDr. Walid Al Juffali, member of one of Saudi Arabia’s most prominent merchant families, died Thursday in Zurich, Switzerland at the age of 61.

He is survived by five daughters – Dina, Hala, Serena, Thalia and Lana – and his Lebanese wife supermodel Loujain Adada.

Walid Al Juffali is the son of Ahmed Abdullah Al Juffali, co-founder of E A Juffali and Brothers, one of Saudi Arabia’s largest conglomerates. He chairs or sits on the boards of many of the company’s subsidiaries and joint ventures and is also the president of his own holding company.

Dr. Walid Al Juffali received a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Diego in 1977 and a PhD in neuroscience from Imperial College London.

He possesses two Knighthoods – one from the Vatican, where he is a member of the Papal Order of St Sylvester – and one from Queen Margrethe of Denmark, who elevated him to membership of the Order of Dannebrog.

Dr. Al Juffali’s fortune from his family’s business interests is estimated at £4 billion.
