National Bank of Bahrain names Durand as CEO

National Bank of Bahrain has appointed Jean-Christophe Durand as its new chief executive officer, effective December 1, 2016.

Mr. Farouk Almoayyed, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Bahrain, has announced the appointment of Jean-Christophe Durand (biography) as CEO following the acceptance of Mr. Abdul Razak Al Qassim’s request for retirement from the position of the Chief Executive.

In order to ensure a smooth transition and an effective hand over process, Mr. Abdul Razak Al Qassim will continue his employment with the bank in the role of an Advisor to the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, up to the end of December 2016.

The Board thanked Mr. Al Qassim for his stewardship of the National Bank of Bahrain and the contribution he has made over the years to make NBB a premier financial institution in the region. The Board highlighted the expertise and dexterity with which Mr. Abdul Razak Al Qassim managed the Bank during the challenging environment since 2008. The Board wished him all the very best in his future endeavors.

Mr. Jean-Christophe Durand, a Bahraini national, graduated from École Supérieure des Sciences Économiques et Commerciales (ESSEC), a French business school in Paris, and has over 36 years of banking and finance experience.

Mr. Durand was the Global Head of the BNP Middle East and Africa region for Corporate and Institutional Banking for over five years before taking up his last assignment as Advisor to the CEO of Mumtalakat.

Mr. Durand has spent a significant number of years in Bahrain working with BNP to grow their business locally and regionally and is credited with establishing BNP as one of the key financial institution in the region.

He is a recipient of the “Légion d’Honneur” from the Government of France.
