Minister Hind Al-Sabeeh has issued a decree forming a new board of directors of Kuwait Airways headed by Sami Al-Rushaid, according to Kuwait New Agency.
In addition to Mr. Sami Al-Rushaid, the new Kuwait Airways (profile) board includes Faleh Abdulla Al-Reqba (as Deputy Chairman), Iman Mohamed Al-Humaidan, Ibrahim Abdulla Al-Khuzam, Mohamed Hussain Al-Hilal, Tareq Jafar Al-Wazzan and Wafa Badr Al-Othman.
Under the decree, the new board will remain in office for only three years, as opposed to five years previously.
Just before the decree was announced, Rasha Al-Roumi, the former Chairman and CEO of the company, tendered her resignation, blaming it on the multitude of challenges the national airline was facing and the failure to increase its capital to KWD 600 million, despite all her efforts.
Mr. Al-Rushaid (biography) comes from an oil and gas background. During his career, he served as Board Member of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Chairman and Managing Director of Kuwait Oil Company, and in various positions at Kuwait National Petroleum Company. He received a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering from Miami University, USA, in 1978.
Established in 1953, Kuwait Airways is one of the oldest airlines in the Gulf region.
