Omar Najjar is the new CEO of Saudi Ground Services

Saudi Ground Services Company (SGS) has appointed Eng. Omar Najjar as chief executive officer, replacing Mr. Qaid Al-Otaibi who resigned for personal reasons.

Eng. Omar Najjar (biography) was the Executive Vice President, Downstream, at National Industrialization Company. He has more than 20 years of experience in a variety of sectors.

Saudi Ground Services Company said in a statement that Eng. Omar Najjar will take over his post on September 25th, and that Mr. Al-Otaibi (biography) will remain as a consultant to the board of directors.

Mr. Najjar started his career as an engineer with Saudi Aramco. After a stint with Saudia, he joined Unilever in 2001 where he had the chance to lead critical parts of the HR function for Unilever’s operation in GCC, Yemen and Iran.

Showing many successes within Unilever’s global platform, he was selected to be the Regional Director for Africa, Middle East and Turkey based in Unilever’s regional office in Durban, South Africa.

During that period, he was extensively involved in the transformation of Unilever, re-shaping the global HR function and building its global shared services setup.

After almost eight years with Unilever, he joined Emaar, The Economic City in 2008 as Business Head for the Education sector where he led its strategy development, business startup and projects’ execution.

In 2010, he joined Cristal to lead its unique transformation journey from a local operator into a global industry leader. He led the development and deployment of Cristal’s operating model that integrated all its global units into One Cristal.

When Tasnee, the major shareholder of Cristal, decided to transform itself, Eng. Omar Najjar was selected to lead the transformation project together with McKinsey & Co. In 2015, he was appointed as Executive VP for Tasnee Downstream Business.

Eng. Najjar received his MBA from London Business School in 2014 and his Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from King Abdulaziz University in 2001
