Summary
Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) specializes in the deployment, ownership and operation of nuclear energy plants within the UAE. Construction of four units of 1,400-megawatt each commenced in April 2010 on a site in Barakah, about 53 kilometers from Ruwais in the Western Region. With the completion of the four reactors in August 2024, the UAE's nuclear energy program is able to provide approximately 25 per cent of the UAE's electricity needs and save up to 37.4 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year. The first nuclear reactor was started in August 2020.
