Mirfa International Power and Water Company (MIPCO)

Mirfa International Power and Water Company (MIPCO) is the tenth project in the private power and water sector launched under Abu Dhabi's privatization program. The plant is a combination of a brownfield and greenfield development delivering a power generating and seawater desalination plant with a net power capacity of 1,600 megawatts and a net water capacity of 52.5 million imperial gallons of water per day. The Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract of the plant was awarded to a consortium comprising Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company Ltd, Hyundai Engineering Company Ltd and Ansaldo Energia SpA. Commercial operation of the plant, which is located approximately 160km west of the city in the Al Dhafra Region of Abu Dhabi, was achieved in phases in Q2 2017.
