Summary
Saudi Water Authority (formerly Saline Water Conversion Corporation) is responsible for regulating and monitoring the water sector in Saudi Arabia including production, transmission, distribution, treatment and reuse. There are 40 desalination plants in the country, 33 of which are owned by the public sector and eight by private companies, with a total production capacity of 11.5 million cubic meters per day. The desalinated water is distributed nationwide via a 120,000-kilometer pipe network.
